Today Wednesday evening 18-January-2012, I participate for the first time International Speech Contest Dukhan Toastmaster Club. I know many experience Toastmaster participated for this event because the Winner will be Club representative for Division contest. So I have prepared since 3 weeks ago to be Good performance.
This time my target is just participate only to test my public speaking skill without nervous, good stand and performance with clear message since I joined Toastmaster 18 months ago. My Mentor during practices said : “To be a Winner required a lot of experience..!”. So I can’t guaranty you will be a Winner. I replied to my mentor : Yes, I understood !. But I should have Winning spirit so I prepare speech, practice and more practice.
Imagine yourself speaking at the World Championship of Public Speaking. You’ve written a speech from your heart, and you deliver the best performance of your life. When the winner is announced, it’s you! Possible? Yes. You can win.
That which separates those who win from those who do not win is not lifetime speaking experience nor contest experience. Not gestures. Not vocal variety. Not rhetorical devices. Not overall delivery skills.
The most critical discriminator between those who win and those who do not is preparation.
Henry Ford observed:
” Whether you think you can or think you can’t – you are right “.
If you believe you can win a Toastmasters Speech Contest, then you can win. Believing you can win will motivate you to give it the proverbial 110% (even though that is a mathematical absurdity).
